Droppy is dead

story update………….I was told the farmer next door shot him with a Muzzleloader on the Sat. of the last gun season. I just got back from a vacation in Europe and this was the first text message I got after getting back. Im going to try to get more info and see the rack in the next few days.Again in sick. Ive hunted this deer all season and havent seen him or even got a pic. My access to this deer was severely cut this season after not being aloud to hunt a particular farm. I just simply couldnt get in this deers area. Im glad to at least know what happened to him.

Hunting the Moon

I was wondering how many serious bow hunters on here use the moon as their guide when planning hunts during pre rut and post rut? I am a firm believer in spending as much time as possible in the stand regardless of moon phase during November. The more that I am getting into my trail cameras the more I am trying to figure out a relationship for the movement that I observe on film. Obviously wind conditions, weather temps and cold fronts all play their part in daytime mature buck movement. I have been watching deer during this late season almost every evening and I am starting to see what I think is a correlation with the moon phase and mature buck movement. Give me your guys’ thoughts or observations. Not intrested in immature buck sightings just mature buck sightings.

Better Versions

Here are more cleaned up versions of the two “How To” videos I posted earlier. The one on wrapping feather flecthing is even longer and shows more of the process I use.

Enjoy

"Enforced" Retirement from Archery

As many of you already know, I suffered a pretty severe shoulder injury in early November,
to my right shoulder (i.e. the drawing shoulder).

This, combined with underlying problems associated with the skeletal structure in my shoulders and upper body mean that I am now no longer able to shoot without pain or causing further physical damage to my body.

So, I’ve made the decision to retire from competitive archery and, as a consequence, my involvement as an active member of the Toowoomba Company of Archers at the local level and SQAS at the regional level.

This hasn’t been an easy decision to make as I’ve been involved with the sport for the better part of 30 years. It has been a very important part of my life over that time and have in some ways shaped my character and the person I have become. The sport has given me great pleasure and I have made many good friends and acquaintances along the journey as well as coaching many fine people, young and old, talented and not so talented.

Whilst I haven’t achieved every goal I set for myself in the sport, nor have I ever reached the great achievements of some members on this forum, I’m happy with what I have been able to achieve over the years, both in terms of my own shooting and assisting others to reach their potential.

I’ve decided to hang up the bow and take up small bore rifle shooting as a way of staying active and involved in target sports and also providing me with some new challenges and goals in life.

I’ll still actively follow and maintain my interest in archery though. Like I said, it’s an important part of me and has to some extent helped to make me the person I’ve become, but my competition days are over… for the forseeable future at least.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone on Archery Forum all the very best for the future.

Cheers,
Richard.

New Years Resolutions Everyone??

How many of these are going to be kept? It’s essentially just a dream isn’t it?

New String

I just got my new string in and installed it,when they put my STS serving on they missed the correct spot, they should have set the measurement back from there starting point on the serving,so the serving starts right were STS ends, also tried to flip the string thinking maybe i put the wrong ends on the cams but i was not that lucky,my question is does the STS need string servings, does it create that much wear,I’m going to call to see if they will send me another string but i don’t want to wait for another string to arrive, worst comes to worst i will bring it to a bow shop and have them serve that area were STS is.also is there another place the STS can be mounted,i see a little yellow and orange STS sticker above were STS is,is there a mounting hole under that ,look at the pic above STS .
